Dhikr of the Council (Majlis)

Formulas to be said at the end of a gathering (meeting, study, conversation) to expiate what may have been said in vain or erroneously (Kaffārat al-Majlis).

    سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ

    Subḥānaka-llāhumma wa bi-ḥamdik, ashhadu an lā ilāha illā ant, astaghfiruka wa atūbu ilayk.

    Glory and praise be to You, O Allāh. I bear witness that there is no deity except You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.

    مَنْ جَلَسَ فِي مَجْلِسٍ فَكَثُرَ فِيهِ لَغَطُهُ، فَقَالَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَقُومَ: سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ، إِلَّا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا كَانَ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ ذَلِكَ

    (ḥadīth de référence)

    “Whoever sits in a gathering where his idle talk abounds, then says before rising: Subḥānaka-llāhumma… — he will be forgiven for what was said in that gathering.” (Prophet ﷺ)
