The Journey

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ. اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى. اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ

Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar. Subḥāna-lladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn, wa innā ilā rabbinā la-munqalibūn. Allāhumma innā nas'aluka fī safarinā hādhā-l-birra wa-t-taqwā, wa mina-l-ʿamali mā tarḍā. Allāhumma hawwin ʿalaynā safaranā hādhā wa-ṭwi ʿannā buʿdah. Allāhumma anta-ṣ-ṣāḥibu fi-s-safari wa-l-khalīfatu fi-l-ahl.

Allāh is the Greatest (×3). Glory be to Him Who has subjugated this to us, though we were unable to subdue it. And verily, to our Lord we are returning. O Allāh, we ask You in this journey for righteousness, fear, and deeds that please You. O Allāh, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. O Allāh, You are the Companion in the journey and the Guardian of the family (one leaves behind).

آيِبُونَ، تَائِبُونَ، عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ

Āyibūn, tā'ibūn, ʿābidūn, li-rabbinā ḥāmidūn.

We are returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord. (upon return)

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Aʿūdhu bi-kalimāti-llāhi-t-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.

I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allāh from the evil of what He has created. (at a stopover)

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ، وَكَآبَةِ الْمَنْظَرِ، وَسُوءِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْأَهْلِ وَالْوَلَدِ

Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min waʿthā'i-s-safar, wa ka'ābati-l-manẓar, wa sū'i-l-munqalabi fi-l-māli wa-l-ahli wa-l-walad.

O Allāh, I seek refuge in You from the difficulties of travel, the sight of a sorrowful return, and an evil outcome concerning wealth, family, and children.
